I particularly liked that this resource gives more than just a reading age. Standardised scores and information on literal comprehension, vocabulary, analysis, and inference strands of reading are invaluable to begin to understand each student’s needs.

DRA is a very complete package. I would ALWAYS recommend DRA as it is personal, establishes great rapport with the students and leads to good dialogue about preferences for Fiction/ Non-fiction (or lack of understanding of the difference). Error analysis provides a great deal of information in minimal time. It is actually always enjoyable to mark and provides almost instant feedback.

The BNST is very useful as a baseline test for interventions and checking the effectiveness of the interventions as there are 2 strands to the test. It is also useful to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses in children. The test is easy and quick to administer – it can be done in groups/whole classes which makes it time efficient. It is also easy to make and results can be seen in standardised scores or maths age.

SNAP Maths is a game changer for identifying specific learning needs and then taking steps to help children improve their fluency in important building blocks for good numeracy.

SNAP allows us to reassess so after targeted intervention, progress can be monitored and evidenced in a visual report which allows us to show the impact of the work we have carried out on improving student wellbeing.
