Why The Concord School loves Adaptive Learn

The Concord School in Nigeria recently introduced Hachette Learning’s Adaptive Learnfor Maths and Science into their teaching strategy as part of an impact trial. The Principal, Mr Ogunmuyiwa, and his team of teachers shared early feedback following the first few weeks of use.

Teachers reported that pupils were enthusiastic about using the platform. As Segun Olalere noted: "The pupils found it so interesting and fun to engage with… after one or two attempts they see it -  that ‘oh, this is actually what they mean’… and it’s actually a more educative platform for them. The pupils relate with it easily because it is what they are engaging with in the classes"

Teachers also appreciated the ease of assigning and tracking work using their Adaptive Learn Educator dashboard: “It helps [teachers] to actually assign work easily to their pupils… and also to be able to follow up on what they are doing."

The teachers felt that the adaptive questions in the Adaptive Learn platform catered to different learning levels and therefore motivated pupils. Eno Adegbite said, "The platform… is very useful. The children find it easy to use, they’re excited, and of course it is individualised. It allows children different levels of learning, is differentiated and inclusive."

Kehinde Farimoyo observed: "They love it… they enjoy it. In fact, some of them say they want to go to the platform and do something."

Moving forward, the team at The Concord School have plans in place to structure periods in the timetable for use of Adaptive Learn within the school day, not just as homework or extra practice outside the classroom. As Mr Apagida concluded: "Supporting students’ learning with technology is a great thing… we're going to do more in order to make the platform even more useful come the second term."

Mr Ogunmuyiwa concluded: "As a school leader, having access to real-time data and the opportunity to identify pupils’ strengths and weaknesses in core subject areas, fill knowledge gaps and accelerate progress at the learner’s pace are vital enhancements derived from the use of [Adaptive Learn]. Our teachers also gain clear feedback in order to make learning truly effective and engaging."

With thanks to the staff and learners at The Concord School.
