Post-pandemic GPS attainment recovery stalls in primary schools across England

Result data from Hachette Learning's termly grammar, punctuation and spelling assessments, New GaPS, shows attainment is still below pre-pandemic baseline in primary schools across England.

• Assessment data shows a persistent dip in standardised scores beginning from the start of the COVID19 pandemic in the UK. 

• While the gap has shrunk since the worst of school disruptions in 2020/21, attainment in GPS remains below pre-pandemic baselines and appear to be plateauing a few points lower.

• We consider how different GPS topics contribute to the delayed attainment recovery and the future and importance of regular assessment.
