This summer, we’re expanding our Reading Planet Rocket Phonics strand with new Target Practice Readers.

Here’s everything you need to know about the books:

What’s coming:

• There are 48 titles which means Rocket Phonics now includes 228 books!
• Every book is fully-decodable and aligned to the progression of Letters and Sounds.
• The books cover Pink A to Orange bands for reading ages 4-6

Everything has been series edited by Rocket Phonics author, consultant and expert Abigail Steel. 

How to use them:

• Each book covers a small group of sounds so they’re ideal for focused reading practice in the classroom.
• If you already use the Rocket Phonics programme (excellent work!), the new books will slot in nicely alongside your existing Target Practice Readers allowing at least one book to become decodable each week. 
• If you’re using a different SSP programme (it’s OK, we understand!) then you can still use the books. As they are aligned to Letters and Sounds, you can easily slot them in alongside your phonics reading books. Learn more about what’s covered here.

What’s inside:

• You've told us that you'd like us to continue to put our young readers at the heart of the books with characters, stories and topics that they can connect with. So, we’re celebrating diversity with new titles such as A Home for Rose, our first Reading Planet story set within the Traveller’s community and the 12-D Crew which follows a young hip-hop crew as they raise funds for their local deaf community. 
• Fiction and non-fiction explore cross-curricular topics. Some of our favourites include The River Bear, a story set in Canada about a group of young environmentalists working to protect their river and its wildlife. There’s also We are Foxes, an information guide packed with stunning photographs of foxes in different habitats.
